Cavanal Hill
Cavanal Hill, Poteau, Oklahoma
Cavanal Hill towers above Poteau, Oklahoma in far eastern Oklahoma. Cavanal Hill has an elevation gain of 1,999 feet- from the valley below. (Just one foot shy of being a mountain - hence the name- 'Cavanal Hill').
There is a road that leads to a marker designating the Hill as indeed, the " World's Highest". Recently, efforts have been made to beautify the park and surrounding areas. A scenic pull-out located half-way up the hill- offers a '50-mile' view in all directions on a clear day.
Recently, 'Bicycling Magazine", featured Cavanal Hill as one of the 100 best 'climbs' in America. It is not uncommon to find cyclists climbing the steep road that winds to the top of the hill. The current 5 mile Course Record is around 26 minutes set a few year's back during the 'Cavanal Hill Cycling Challenge'.
